A huge shout out to Windsor Regional Hospital for being so accommodating! This mama had PROM and was going to be induced two days after this session, but the doctor gave her the clear to have some pictures done! We found the atrium and got some amazing shots <3
I knew Sarah needed something different than the average maternity session. When we started brainstorming, I got so excited to bring this vision to life! We chose the lovely historic town of Amherstburg as the background for her beautiful baby bump. I absolutely love how this session turned out and I'd love to do another one someday!
I had the privilege of photographing my first set of triplets this spring! Leyla, Mohammed, and Leyana were such amazing babies! I got some great shots of these beautiful little ones. <3
Back in March, I had bronchitis - and the only time I get bronchitis is when I'm pregnant for some reason. After taking a pregnancy test, I found out I was indeed pregnant! However there was some confusion around my dates, so I went for a dating ultrasound (which by the way are "supposed" to be accurate) My original due date was November 22, but after the ultrasound it showed the baby was bigger so they bumped my date to November 12.
Fast forward to Thanksgiving weekend in October, I started having pre-labour contractions. These contractions would come every 2-4 days, and last for around 4-5 hours in the evening. By the time I woke up the following morning they would be gone. Frustration was very much a huge part of my last month of pregnancy with this little one!
My due date (the 12th) passed, and I was still getting contractions every few days but nothing progressed. Google became my best friend as I searched ways to naturally induce labor, how to align the baby in the pelvis, and everything I thought would help get my stalled labour going. On the evening of the 21st, my amazing midwife came and checked me as I was having contractions every 5 minutes but they weren't getting stronger. I was dilated to only 2-3 cm and baby was posterior, so she showed me a few things to do to get the baby turned around the right way. Around 10pm, my contractions stopped completely and I was so frustrated and tired so my hubby and I went to bed. I was sore, disappointed, frustrated, and on the verge of a breakdown. Around 1:30am, I woke up to use the bathroom and I felt my contractions starting up again. I had two very slight contractions about 10 minutes apart so I paid no attention to them as I sat down on the couch and prayed. After expressing my frustration to God (and I'll be honest, my faith was at an extreme low at that point) I lay down on the couch and tried to get some more sleep.
About 5 minutes after laying down, I had a sharp shooting contraction pain that was stronger than any pain I've felt my entire pregnancy. I thought "Its just one.. I won't get another one." I couldn't have been more wrong. This was around 1:45 am Nov 22.
At 2:30, I woke up Gerald and told him to call my mom and I would call the midwife. I was in so much pain, I couldn't time the contractions but they were coming at least every 2-3 minutes from what Gerald told me. Pain scale at this point was about an 8-9 whereas my other pre-labour pains were around a 3!
At 3am the midwives arrived and got everything set up as I labored (and I remembered why women liked getting epidurals!) The midwife checked me around 3:30 and I was 7cm. I had a warm shower to see if that helped with the pain but it didn't do much!
4:35am - My water broke in the bathroom.
4:40am - I made it to our room and I couldn't get on the bed so I told them this baby was coming as I was standing beside the bed.
4:45am - Miss Georgiana made her appearance! She must have been doing a dance before she came out as the cord was wrapped all around her body! After getting her untangled I carried her to the bed and lay down with her on my chest. Sweet relief!
She weighed 8lbs 7oz, and was 20.8 inches long.
After she came out, we started wondering if the ultrasound dating was wrong.. she was covered in vernix, and there was no meconium in the fluid (which chances are higher the more baby goes overdue. She would be 10 days overdue at this point). Plus she measured small in subsequent ultrasounds, and she arrived just as big as my other babies. So if indeed the dating ultrasound was incorrect, she would have arrived right on time on her due date!
I just want to thank my amazing midwife team, Maria and Mojgan from Midwives of Windsor! You've been very supportive during my appointments and you've made my first home birth experience an amazing one!
Back in the spring, I teamed up with Little Gems in Tecumseh for a special Mother's Day Portrait Giveaway. Michelle was my lucky winner and I was able to recently photograph her and her two gorgeous children! I know these portraits mean so much to her and I know she is going to enjoy seeing them for many years to come.
